fheroes2, short for Free Heroes of Might and Magic II is nothing less than what the name suggests: a completely free, open-source and multiplatform reinterpretation of the classic HoMM2. This loyal representation of the original was written from scratch, with some added improvements that let you play on a modern Mac.

The first improvement you'll notice when starting to play is that you can choose between much higher resolutions than those supported by the original game, and the game looks incredible with a higher resolution. Another obvious improvement can be found with some of the animations, which are much nicer and more fluid than those in the original game. And, as if these aesthetic improvements weren't enough, fheroes2 also fixes many bugs and improves the AI in general.

fheroes2 is a real treat for fans of the original Heroes of Might and Magic, who will be able to enjoy again one of the best turn-based strategy games in history, with a whole load of improvements. And, of course, you can still play the mythical hotseat mode, so several players can play from the same Mac.
